It is all very well teaching people how to make parts on a CNC machine, but it is equally important to ensure that they know how to make good ones. Ballbar testing is an industry standard (ASME B5.54 / 57, ISO230-4) method of evaluating the performance and accuracy of a CNC machine tool, by means of a quick and simple test, and is something students are likely to encounter when they start work in manufacturing. Teaching them about ballbar testing will not only provide a valuable and much sort after skill, it will also help them understand the cause and effect of the many different errors that exist in a machine.

The Renishaw QC10 ballbar is the most widely used tool for the assessment of machine tool performance and accuracy by the worlds leading machine tool OEMs, manufacturers and government agencies.
